The weekend is here! You are ready to go out and spend the night partying with your friends after the long week you’ve had but suddenly, BAM! It starts to rain. Surely, there was no prediction for rain before but it doesn’t matter now, because you’re stuck at home with nothing to do. This is not how you planned to spend the weekend but what can you do? Well, you could order some snacks like nachos and popcorn and binge-watch some movies! Maybe, that’s why you’re here right now looking for the perfect movie to watch. In that case, we assure you that you will find the perfect movie to watch from our list and enjoy your night, despite not going out!
Singing in the Rain
How could we not add this to the list? Everyone knows you should watch “Singing in the Rain” on a rainy day. I mean, the title itself should be enough to convince you! This movie is an American musical romantic comedy that was released in 1952. The story follows the life of Don Lockwood, a big film star in silent movies with a humble beginning. Don accidentally happens to meet Kathy Selden who claims to be a stage actress and calls his accomplishments “undignified”. As the movie progresses, Kathy and Don start to fall in love all the while Don’s co-star Lina Lamont gets furious and jealous of Kathy. Of course, we won’t ruin the ending for you or tell you anymore as this is something you need to see for yourself!
Overall, the movie is a feel-good movie that is quite humorous and makes for the perfect rainy night entertainment! The movie is also a light-hearted depiction of Hollywood in the late 1920s and it shows the transition of movies from silent films to “talkies”, as they call it. Did you know that this movie was also one of the first 25 films selected by the United States Library of Congress for preservation in the Natural Film Registry? It is said to be culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant!
Shawshank Redemption
Released in 1994, this drama film is based on Stephen King’s novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption. Andy Dufresne is a banker who has been framed for two murders, his wife and her lover. He is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary and befriends another prisoner, Ellis “Red” Redding over the course of two decades. As time progresses, Andy unwillingly becomes a part of the prison warden’s money-laundering operation. During these times, Andy suffers a lot, and when Red wonders what keeps him going, he tells him it’s hope.
While the movie seems to be very depressing and even painful to watch as Andy struggles to survive in that prison day-to-day, it is a great movie that eventually gives users the ending they were waiting for. The movie is a definite must-watch, even if it’s not raining!
Jurassic Park
If you haven’t watched or at least heard of this series, maybe you’ve been living with Patrick under a rock. Jurassic Park is a science fiction action film that was released in 1993. It is the first installment in the Jurassic Park franchise. It was further followed by two more installments of Jurassic Park and then eventually, three newer installments, Jurassic World, with one set to be released in June 2022.
Even if you have watched the movies in this franchise before, binge-watching them on a rainy night while lying in bed with snacks gives a whole other vibe to the movie. The story of the series basically revolves around the idea of recreating dinosaurs through intense scientific research and blood extracted from a crystallized mosquito. Of course, things go horribly wrong due to one person’s greed for money and so, the movies in the series show the characters trying to survive and successfully make it out of the island.
Titanic
Rainy days sure create a vibe for sad days and so, if you are feeling sad and would like a good cry, Titanic is the movie to watch. Considering the well-deserved popularity of the movie, we are sure you must have watched this movie and cried too. The tragic love story was released in 1997 and was incorporating real-life events of the Titanic sinking, however, the story of Jack and Rose is merely fiction. Years later, and still to this day, the movie is considered a classic and a perfectly-executed tragic love story.
While the story itself is fictional, the sinking of the Titanic is, unfortunately, very real. Not only are you left heartbroken by the story of Jack and Rose, but you get to imagine and understand the gravity and despair of all the people on board the Titanic on its first and last voyage. This is why this movie can truly rock you to the core and of course, bring you on the verge of tears.
The Parent Trap
Released in 1988, The Parent Trap is a romantic comedy film that is the story of a divorced couple who separated shortly after the birth of their identical twin daughters, taking one daughter each with them. Coincidently, both twins are reunited at a summer camp and quickly realize that they share more than just their looks with each other. Both twins, Hallie and Annie, decide to switch roles (and parents, for that matter!) and come up with a plan to fool their parents and eventually, reunite them after revealing their true identities.
Of course, they realize that reuniting two people who have decided not to be together is much harder than they thought, especially when one of them has apparently moved on to another partner. Well, that’s all we’ll say about the movie since we don’t want to ruin it for you, in case you haven’t watched it. The movie definitely puts a smile on your face and makes you fall in love with the twin girls. And you know what else? The twins are both played by Lindsay Lohan and boy, is she cute!
Grease
Grease is a musical romantic comedy film released in 1978 and was a major success becoming the highest-grossing musical film ever. This film was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. The story is based in the year 1958, where two people, Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson, coincidently meet on the beach during the summer. Thinking they will never meet again, they both say their goodbyes and continue with their lives after summer ends. What they don’t realize is that they are both attending the same high school and happen to meet again.
The story is just that: a love story of two teenagers with differing personalities. This story is not very complicated and won’t take you on a roller coaster ride, however, it is a feel-happy movie with catchy soundtracks that you will keep humming to even when the movie ends. It is definitely something to watch at least once in your life.
Can I watch these on TV?
